First offshore hybrid boat in Brazilian waters enters into operation at the service of Equinor

news-details

The vessel uses stored electrical energy and diesel for its activities, reducing emissions by up to 40%

The first PSV (Platform Supply Vessel) boat in Brazilian waters came into operation, at the service of Equinor. The vessel has a battery bank installed, which makes it possible to alternate the use of electricity and diesel. As a result, it is expected that the boat, which is working in the logistics of the Bacalhau field, in the Santos Basin, will emit up to 40% less CO2 during its activities.

PSV type boats are responsible for transporting, from the mainland to the offshore units, the supplies and equipment necessary for the operation of the assets. By reducing the use of the combustion engine, made possible by batteries, it is also possible to reduce emissions generated by diesel consumption.

The hybrid vessel, in service of the Norwegian company, is the result of a contract between Equinor and the Brazilian group CBO. The partnership also plans to convert a new hybrid PSV for next year.

Partners in Cod: Equinor 40% (operator), ExxonMobil 40%, Petrogal Brasil 20% and Pré-sal Petróleo SA (Government Company, PSA Manager).
